Take your place in movements for change

    with confidence and courage

A group of fungi grow together among grass and sorrel at the edge of a forest
  • You want to take your place in movements for social, economic, and environmental justice.

You're full of passion and commitment.

But you're not sure about your next step.

Whether your version of activism involves street action, parenting, teaching, organising mutual aid, community gardening, sitting on an organisation's board, running an anti-capitalist business, tracking fascists, making art, or something else that you haven't discovered yet, it's still frustrating to be stuck.

Exactly where and why you're stuck will be individual to you, but it might look a bit like one of the following:

    • You've tried taking action on one or two issues, but it feels lonely doing things by yourself, and you don't know how to find other people to organise with.
    • You know what you want to do, and you might even know who you'd like to do it with, but you find yourself blocked by negative beliefs about what you're capable of, what you're 'allowed' to do, or how safe, valued/valuable or welcome you will be in the work.
    • You're aware of activist, mutual aid or other groups that are relevant to your kind of activism that you could join, but you hold back, either because you're not sure of what you could contribute, because you're nervous of group dynamics, or because you're aware of your privilege and don't want to take space from marginalised people.
    • You're clear on what you could contribute, and you feel confident about how, when and where to leverage your privilege, but either the groups you know of are focused on a kind of action that you can't do, are plagued by interpersonal conflict, or have a culture of sacrifice, overwork and burnout.
    • You know what you want to contribute, and where, but because of a chronic illness, long-term condition, or physical impairment, your energy and time to do anything beyond self-care is very limited. You sometimes (often) feel like giving up.

I know just how disheartening each of these situations can be.

Over decades of being involved in groups and organisations working for social, economic and environmental change, and of working with individuals and groups on identifying what they want to achieve and how, as well as wrestling to take action myself while living with chronic illnesses, I've learned a lot about what it takes to find your lane, work with others, and bring about change together.

In these coaching sessions, I bring all of that knowledge and experience to bear, as well as my skills in person-centred relating, project planning, and spiritual counselling.

    What does coaching include?

Exactly what a series of Resilient Activists coaching looks like will depend on where you're at, what issues you've come up against, and what you've already tried. But broadly, our work together is likely to fall into one or more of the following themes:

  • Vision and Alignment

Activism for its own sake doesn't bring about lasting change. It's only when action is linked to reflection that it become praxis: living into a vision of how the world could be.

I take you through a process of clarifying the issues you're passionate about, working out where you stand in terms of privilege and oppression, and identifying your skills, capacity, resources and willingness.

From that place of clarity, it's much easier to claim your lane, and find your place within movements that you're in alignment with.

    Inner Blocks and Conditioning

Our beliefs about ourselves and how we fit in the world (or don't) are powerful. No matter how strong your commitment and passion is, or how clear your vision, inner blocks and conditioning can still prevent you from taking action.

I hold space for you to explore the beliefs that are stopping you from taking action. Together we examine where those beliefs come from, and methods you can try to unpack, unpick and dissolve them.

You try those methods out, keep what works, and leave what doesn't, and in the process build your resilience.

    Planning with Care

Once you have clarity, you can get to grips with mapping out how you're going to move towards the kind of activism that works for you - which is to say, it's time to plan and experiment.

I support you to create bite sized, workable tasks, and to link each task to the resources needed to carry it out. You try things out, we review what happened together, and adjust the plan. You take further action. Rinse and repeat.

I'll also support you to take a long hard look at your self-care and make it an integrated part of your planning and action.

    Relationships and Communication

In all movement work, we are constantly relating and communicating - not only with our comrades and colleagues, but with the people who are closest to us in day to day life.

And people are different. We have different outlooks, wants and needs, visions, commitments, and communication styles. When those differences clash, it can throw a spanner into our works - or at the very least, some very irritating grit.

I hold space for you to work through your communication and relating issues, and to make decisions about what comes next.

  • How does coaching work?

Coaching sessions are every week, and last for one hour. They are delivered via Whereby.

Each live session may contain a combination of coaching, reflection, role play of challenging situations, and facilitated action, as appropriate. You will also have access to some support via text via Signal or WhatsApp, Monday to Friday.

I work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, but I especially love working with queer and/or trans people, people who are Black, Indigenous, Asian, otherwise of colour or members of ethnic minorities, and disabled people, including neurodivergent people.

My work is trauma-informed, but it is not mainstream counselling or therapy, and should not be used as a replacement for such.

    Accessibility notes:

    • Whereby does not have native closed captioning, but it works with the Chrome browser's own AI closed captioning.
    • A transcript is available following the call, should you want one.
    • Text only sessions are also available if that is more appropriate to your needs.

    How much does it cost?

Weekly sessions can be booked in blocks of 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or 1 year.

Fees are on a sliding scale. To give an indication of the cost, without overwhelming you with the whole fee structure, a 4 week block of coaching would be charged as follows:

    Access: £280

    Support: £425

    Equity: £566

    Justice: £710

Payment plans are available for longer blocks at all fee levels.

To find out where you might place yourself on the sliding scale, I've created a simple survey which you can complete here.

  • What people say about working with Elinor

    Anuradha Kowtha

I love the qualities of caring, nurturance, awareness, and clarity that Elinor brings to their work. I felt cared for. I felt seen. I felt appreciated.

I had a lot of fear of taking up space, and a lot of judgements about myself. Elinor approached all of that in ways that helped me see that that’s okay. El gave me strategies and tools, and new ways of looking at the situation that were really helpful, and made it so easy to do the work.

Els integrity, genuine care for people, kindness, and how el shows up, are all reasons I’d encourage people to work with Elinor.

    Alexis P. Morgan

    Artist, Writer and Sorceress

Thanks to working with Elinor, my personal development process has sped up quite a bit, in a manner that’s very focused, grounded, and clear. Elinor holds these containers so well, and the work has matched my pace and bandwidth.

I feel less apologetic about my existence, desires, and choices, and feel more confident and willing to examine my personal responsibility and my relationship with the choices I am making.

Elinor teaches and transmits with clarity and purpose, is a very attentive, insightful listener and guide, and incredibly wise, thoughtful, and knowledgeable

    Dr. Pavini Moray

I started working with Elinor when I needed support to write my PhD dissertation.

Elinor combined compassion and kindness with consistency and academic rigor. El gently pushed me towards more clarity, and held me through the really messy parts. And I got my PhD!

What I especially loved was Elinor's ability to hold both the intellectual and magical parts of the process.

If you're thinking of working with Elinor, DO IT! You'll be so glad you did. Elinor knows els shit, and will hold your hand firmly yet gently so you can know yours!
